Atomic Unrolls the Yella Carpet

Great Southern Wood has made a name for themselves thanks to the their “little yellow tag.” Atomic Pictures recently helped The Slaton Agency of Decatur and Dill Productions of Birmingham unroll the yellow carpet for Great Southern Wood’s new identity campaign.

The campaign is a series of vignettes that highlights the Great Southern Wood name change to Yellawood. The highlight of the multi-spot campaign, features Great Southern Wood President and spokesperson, Jimmy Rane strolling down the yellow carpet and unveiling the new name, in grand style changing the world famous, Hollywood sign to Yellawood.

Atomic Pictures, Brian Collins crafted the Yellawood sign animation in Maya before importing it into Discreet* Logic’s Flame for final adjustments. Brian said, “The great thing about this campaign is that it really enjoys poking fun at itself and icons of pop culture in a very good natured way. So to take the Hollywood sign and have Jimmy [Rane] unveil it as Yellawood was a lot of fun. Once again Norton and Slats [Slaton of Slaton Agency] did a great job. “

This project marks the latest collaboration between Brian and Norton Dill of Dill Productions. In the past they have worked together on several regional and national clients such as the University of Alabama Health Systems and Line-X spray on truck bed liners.

Atomic Delivery

Atomic Pictures designed the title sequence and box art for a multi-part DVD series produced for the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) by Highnoon Film and Interactive. The series is designed to give the public the information they need to protect themselves against postal fraud. The entire series will be available, free to the public, at all United States Post Offices.

The title sequence is reminiscent of today’s prime time police dramas. With pulsing music, each character is introduced; behind them monochromatic, still-images rapidly change, dynamically introducing each actor before resolving to the episode’s title.

Brian Collins Atomic Smoke and Flame artist said, “From the first beat of music [in the open] you think that it’s another primetime cop show. I think that does a lot to suck the viewer in. Once I saw the shows that Les [Rayburn of Highnoon Film and Interactive] had put together I knew that whatever we did had to reflect that same energy. I don’t think viewers will be disappointed.”

The USPIS is one of the United States oldest branches of law enforcement, dating back to the original 13 colonies. “Les wanted a this project will do a lot. He and USPIS wanted the series not only to entertain but, educate the public about how to prevent postal fraud while also informing them about the USPIS, Brian said.

Brian said, “I’m always blown away to see the concepts that Greg [Davis] and HGTV assemble and see just how far beyond the storyboards we can take the concepts. Each time we push the limits further and the challenges increase but in the end it’s really satisfying to see what the whole team creates.”

Company 3’s Stefan Sonnenfeld added his talents as the telecine colorist. Stefan’s work has been seen in more than two-dozen Super Bowl commercials in addition to music videos for, Eminem, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez.

Account Executive Greg Davis of d groupe oversaw the project from start to finish. Freelance agency producer Troy Courtney pulled the final pieces together assembling the production and post teams.

Atomic Helps So They Can Smile

Atomic Pictures’ creative team donated their talents to design the recent campaign for Camp Smile-A-Mile (SAM), Alabama’s camp for children with cancer.

Brian Collins, Atomic Pictures President said, “For us this project was not a privilege but a responsibility. We’re in the perfect place to be able to help. We were able to call on our friends within the creative community, to help us support such a worthy cause. Everyone that we called [to help] jumped at the opportunity to give their talents.”

The Atomic creative team designed the “So They Can Smile” commercial campaign promoting each of Camp SAM’s two summer fund raising activities: the Ride of Love and The Monkey Ride. The Ride of Love is a one-day 140-mile bicycle ride and the Monkey Ride is a motorcycle tour. In each case donors sponsor riders for the every mile ridden.

The two 30 second commercials created for the campaign feature a lone rider describing why they ride for the children of Camp SAM.

Collins said, “In each commercial we sought to draw the parallel between what the rider and the kids go through. Just like the rode, recovery is long; sometimes it can be lonely and exhausting but in both cases they face the obstacles in front of them push forward. It’s feels good to be able to give back to the community.”
