About Us

Atomic Pictures is a full service video production and creative media company in Birmingham, Alabama. We specialize in post-production video editing and video production for television commercials and corporate presentations.

Since 1999, Atomic Pictures has been quietly churning out a pretty cool mix of television commercials for local, regional and national clients. We work with independent producers, advertising agencies, production companies and directly with clients from across the country. But we do more than great television commercials. Our experience extends to corporate video presentations, motion graphics, direct sales videos, trade show presentations and point-of-purchase materials.

Unless you live under a rock (not that there's anything wrong with that), you've seen our national work for some of America’s best know brands. But that doesn’t mean all we do is big budget advertising campaigns. We really spend more time on local and regional television commercials for automotive dealers, entertainment properties, hospitals and banks. Regardless the budget, we bring our A-Game and help lift every project to the next level. Got a television commercial, video project or any other creative project in the works? Give us a shout and see what we can do for you.

Post Production

Video editing used to be cutting a few scenes together, adding a dissolve or two, putting a logo on the end and calling it done.  It’s a little more complicated these days and we have the tools and experience to handle pretty much any creative vision you might have. We like to go beyond the script, beyond the storyboard and kick it up a notch. We’re not happy until everything is perfect.

Atomic Pictures may have more national television advertising credits than anyone in town, but say you’re not working with a huge budget,  not a problem.  We take that top tier experience and help bring it down to projects of any size.  We’re great at maximizing budgets to give our clients the greatest value and the most effective end product. Our three edit suites are equipped with the finest tools to complete the job on time and on budget.

GALLERIES

  • Lenovo K900 With Kobe Bryant
  • Lenovo K900 01
Brand logos not connected with the spot had to be removed from all shots.
  • Lenovo K900 02
The biggest concern was preserving the complex dimpled texture of the basketball and the dramatic lighting used on set.
  • Lenovo K900 03
Blurring sections of the ball or simply cloning in a new texture would be distracting and wouldn’t work on such a high profile spot.
  • Lenovo K900 04
The first step involved creating moving masks of each frame of the spot containing a logo.
  • Lenovo K900 05
Dozens of masks were used to isolate the problem sections of the ball.
  • Lenovo K900 06
It was complicated by the constant changes in movement, direction and being obscured by complicated foreground objects.
  • Lenovo K900 07
A matching 3D sphere was tracked into the frame matching the perfect shape, rotation and size of the ball.
  • Lenovo K900 08
Atomic Pictures used Autodesk Flame to texture and light the replacement ball and perfectly match the nuances of the footage.
  • Lenovo K900 11
The most difficult scene was this super slow motion shot focused entirely on the ball.
  • Lenovo K900 12
With no room for error, it had to be perfect – color, texture, movement and motion blur.
  • Lenovo K900 13
Flame was also used to remove wrinkles in the wardrobe and a few other invisible fixes.
  • Lenovo K900 14
The results were flawless and the job was done in just one day.
  • View The Finished Spot

With a tight deadline of only one day, Atomic Pictures was tapped with cleaning up important elements in a television commercial for Lenovo’s K900 smartphone featuring NBA superstar Kobe Bryant. Fixes include removing brand logos from an ever-moving basketball and smoothing wrinkles in wardrobe.

Simply blurring or painting out the logos and wrinkles wasn’t an option. It had to look perfect and completely natural. Using the unique abilities of Autodesk Flame, we were able to replace large sections of the ball on a frame by frame basis with a perfectly rendered 3d replacement. Our 3D elements matched the dramatic lighting and revealed the well-known dimpled texture of the ball. The results were seamless.

When Ray McKenney first approached Atomic Pictures he had the “Drive Happy” slogan and a basic black and white sketch of a cartoon car that he wasn’t too happy with.  We took those elements, revamped the sketch into a full color set of characters that would be used to tell the McKenney story.  It’s a fun-filled cartoon world with tons of original illustrations, bouncy music and snappy animation.  With a modest production budget Atomic Pictures created effective spots that broke through in a market dominated by typical price point advertising.
